What a great turnout for yesterday's launch of my book Driven by the Wind, at the Mapua Boat Club on Mapua Wharf. Around 100 people braved the cold, showery weather to attend and buy copies of the book, which is published by River Press. Sheila Budgen of the Spirit of Adventure Trust officially launched the book and I spoke about the research methods required to trace the nautical adventures of Captain Henry Rose. It's been great working with Henry's great grandson Alastair Rose, who was photographed with me on the wharf with copies of the book. A highlight of the launch was meeting a brother and sister pair whose great grandfather Henry Norman served under Henry Rose on several voyages to New Zealand, the first time as a 14-year old apprentice.
The book is available in Nelson at Page and Blackmore and Volume independent bookstores. Outside of Nelson, do be sure to ask your local bookstore for a copy. Otherwise, check the River Press website.
